How We Watch TV Without Cable Service. A number of you have written asking about our TV- watching setup, and I’m finally getting around to writing about it today. You probably know that here at Chez Frugal Girl, we don’t like to spend a lot of time glued to the TV screen (Honestly, the computer screen is much more tempting to me!)However, we do like to watch TV sometimes and as you might guess, we’re not big fans of paying a cable TV bill.

So, we use a few alternative services. Mr. FG is solely responsible for researching, purchasing, and installing all of this stuff*, and I’m having him fact- check this post so I get it all right for you!*I don’t do techie stuff around here except for blog- related things. I’m blissfully content to let him handle it all. Roku. Ok. So, one of the main tools we use to get content to our TV is our Roku Box. Roku is a leetle box that allows you to stream content straight to your TV. If you’ve been streaming content to your small- screened laptop, this will open up whole new vistas for you! You can buy a Roku Box, for between $4.

This is obviously a huge advantage over cable TV, which sucks money from your bank account every month. The Roku interface has a bunch of channels that are completely free, so if you’re not subscribed to a service like Netflix, you can still access a lot of streaming content like news channels, Pandora, Chow, Flixster, Disney. Mr. FG recommends thenowhereman channel and there’s a great list on Wikipedia. Netflix. We do have a Netflix streaming account though, and I’d highly recommend it.

For $7. 9. 9 a month, you get unlimited Netflix streaming movies, TV shows, children’s show, documentaries, and more. Now, the Netflix streaming library isn’t nearly as extensive as their DVD rental library…if you want a newly- released movie, you’re probably going to be out of luck if you want to stream it. But if you don’t mind watching things that have been out for a while, there’s lots to choose from. Our kids use this service way more than Mr.

FG and I do, actually…they love to watch Fat Albert, Cake Boss, Myth. Busters, and Shaun the Sheep (Shaun is awesome, you have to admit!)Mr. FG and I have really enjoyed the documentaries offered on Netflix streaming. We’ve watched documentaries on nature, adventurous living (like the one about people who bike from Banff, CA, to Mexico), the educational system, and the food system. And we’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s available. If you’re worried about the selection on Netflix streaming, never fear!

You can sign up for a free one month trial and you’ll have plenty of time to browse around and see if there’s enough to keep you happy. If you want more content than what’s offered on Netflix’s streaming services, for an additional $7. DVD library, and once you’ve got that, the sky is the limit…pretty much anything you could want is available, including things that have been recently released.

Even if you pay for both services each month, your bill will only be $1. And that $1. 5. 9. TV. Amazon Streaming/Prime. Another option is to stream content from Amazon. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can get some streaming content free, or you can pay a few dollars to download shows and movies. If you don’t watch a lot of TV, this could be a better option for you than Netflix, but if you watch more than a few shows a week, Netflix is definitely going to save you money.

You can try a free Amazon Prime 3. Day Trial to see if this would be worth it for you.  We LOVE our prime membership…the convenience of free shipping, plus the streaming are fabulous and well worth the $9. Broadcast TVWe do still get regular broadcast TV as well…this is free in the U. S. All you need is an antenna, and possibly a digital converter box, depending on the sort of TV you have. I’m not very technically inclined, so I’ll just refer you to this post that explains the process very well. Once again, though, it’s the sort of thing where you buy a little equipment and then you’re set for the foreseeable future.

So much better than a monthly bill. One thing I really like about having Roku and Netflix instead of cable is that you have to be a little more intentional about your TV watching than you’d be otherwise. With a 1. 80- channel cable lineup, it’s really easy to sit down and mindlessly channel surf, and that’s a big time suck. With the streaming service, though, you have to browse and select what you want to watch, so it’s not nearly as tempting to bounce around between a bunch of shows. This helps make sure you don’t waste your leisure time. I also appreciate that there are no commercials…when you watch an episode of, say, Myth Busters, it’s 1.

Myth Busters. This saves time and reduces our exposure to advertising, both of which are great things in my book. So! We use: Netflix streaming and DVD servicesan antenna and digital converter for broadcast TVI know this setup wouldn’t work for everyone, but it definitely meets our needs. I hope I explained everything in an understandable manner here. If I didn’t, ask away in the comments, and I’ll get Mr. FG to answer your questions!

And if any of you have additional frugal TV- watching tips, do share by leaving a comment. Oh, and this article has a lot of other helpful information about the Roku.____________________________This post contains affiliate links.

Things to Watch: Millville - Motocross. Spring Creek Motocross.

Millville, MNRace Center: Spring Creek. Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Back in the Game. After getting sidelined with shoulder and elbow injuries at Minneapolis Supercross in February, Benny Bloss will finally be back in action this weekend at Millville. This weekend is likely more about getting back into the flow of racing than trying to pull in stunning results, but don’t expect Bloss to be running at the back of the pack either—he’s been back on the bike and preparing for this return for quite some time. Let’s hope it goes better for him than the last time he raced in Minnesota. Aaron Hansel. As you may have noticed, Blake Baggett didn’t quite have the same pace at Southwick he was showing earlier in the season.

That’s likely due to the ligaments in his thumb that got torn when he and Jason Anderson got together at Red. Bud. He’s still within reach of the championship—he trails Eli Tomac by 1. We’ll see Baggett and his thumb have anything for Tomac on Saturday. Hansel. Podium Delayed. Cooper Webb hasn’t quite had the season many thought he would, but he was excellent at Southwick, going 3- 6 for fourth overall. Watch Christie`S Revenge Download Full. If it wasn’t for a stall late in the second moto while running second, he would have been on the podium. Even with the stall he still tied for third, but the tie- breaker didn’t go his way.

You know Webb’s going to get on the podium sooner or later. Will it be at this weekend?

Hansel. Webb has two top five finishes this summer. Jeff Kardas. Speaking of Podiums. In what’s already been a successful comeback year for Dean Wilson, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider earned the first 4. Southwick. Interestingly enough, Wilson said he doesn’t even like Southwick and had to mentally prepare himself ahead of time for what he thought was going to be a tough weekend! Expect Wilson to be good at Millville too.

He was 1. 1th there last year in what was his first National of the 2. Hansel. Even more podium talk. RJ Hampshire has been pretty good since coming back from injury at High Point, and he was especially good at Southwick. Despite losing his rear brake in both motos the GEICO Honda rider went 5- 4 for fourth overall.

At one point he even passed into the lead and led briefly before going down. Had he kept it upright or hadn’t lost his rear brakes, there’s a good chance he would have earned the first overall podium of his career. We’ll see if he gets it this weekend.

Hansel. Tomac Rolling. When Eli Tomac tipped over at the start of the first moto at High Point and finished a distant 1. Tomac?” takes floating around. Since that moto, Tomac has won six of the last seven motos, including five straight, and enters Millville with a 1.

Blake Baggett. During this span, Tomac has led an incredible 7. Can anyone slow down the Tomac train this weekend? Chase Stallo Southwick. Led 2. 4 of 2. 6 laps. Red. Bud. Led 2. 2 of 3.

Muddy Creek. Led 1. High Point. Led 1. Due to separate leg injuries, Matt Bisceglia has yet to line up behind a starting gate in 2. The former AMA Horizon Award winner signed with Auto. Trader. com/JGR Suzuki this off- season to ride the RM- Z2. RCH/Yoshimura Suzuki on a 4. JGR’s truck is already at full capacity—Justin Barcia, Weston Peick, Kyle Cunningham, and the returning Phil Nicoletti at Unadilla—and RCH is down a rider with Broc Tickle out for the remainder of the series due to a shoulder injury, so the move makes sense for both sides.

Bisceglia made seven starts in the 4. Class last year with Yoshimura Suzuki, filling- in for Blake Baggett and James Stewart, finishing 1. MX points. In the 1.

Bisceglia had nine top 1. We’ll see how he does this weekend. Stallo. The Martins. You know the story by now: Alex and Jeremy Martin grew up on the Spring Creek property, which their parents, John and Greta, purchased in 1. They cut grass at the facility, rode “more laps than they can remember,” and know the track like the back of their hand.

Since turning pro in 2. Jeremy has been the most dominate brother, finishing no worse than fourth overall and collecting two overall wins (2. Watch We Can Be Heroes Episode 2 Online Free.

During that same span, Alex hasn’t had as much success, finishing on the overall podium just once (2. With the brothers running 2- 3 in 2. MX points at the moment, this weekend will be huge in regards to the championship. Do they protect their house or does another rider sneak in and grab the overall?

Stallo. Year. Jeremy Martin. Alex Martin. 20. 13. Alex knows the track so well he can do a lap with his eyes closed: Number 3? In his first season in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis admitted it’s hard getting accustomed to the tracks due to the short practice time compared to GPs. Ferrandis adjusted quickly to the sands of Southwick, grabbing a moto one win and tying Zach Osborne for the overall (Osborne owned the tie- breaker). Can Ferrandis adjust quickly to Millville and grabbed his third moto win on the season?

Stallo. PC Rebound. It’s been a long Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season for Pro Circuit—and we’re only seven rounds in.

Bike problems, injuries, and a lack of consistent results have hindered Mitch Payton’s squad, with the latest bad news coming earlier this week when Austin Forkner sustained a concussion, ruling him out for this weekend. The squad has just one moto win this season (Joey Savatgy at Thunder Valley) and haven’t had a moto podium since Muddy Creek. Can they get back on track this weekend?
